The Scarlet Hour visited Morecambe for the very first time, as part of Corrosion Fest 2024! We were delighted to be invited to open up Saturday’s proceedings by Donna and Mike, and on arrival we couldn’t be better looked after.
What a venue! The Alhambra is a vast, classical place and I must point out (or our svengali John will be annoyed!) that it was where Laurence Olivier filmed 1960’s “The Entertainer” about a faded seaside star gambling all on a triumphant return to form. No omens for us, please!
Not that we needed to worry of course, with a swift setup and soundcheck we were ready for the music fans who came flooding in. It was a spectacular turnout for supporters of quality live music, and we saw familiar faces in the crowd as well as some new converts to The Scarlet Hour sound! We took full advantage of the stage and although I accidentally disconnected my microphone at one point, I can assure you it was due to sheer enthusiasm and enjoyment!
From classic tracks like Skyline and Warhead, to newer songs like Pursuit and even a first outing for Under The Surface, we were on top form – all thanks to an incredibly energetic and engaged audience. After the show, we retired to our merch stall and met many of you, who kindly picked up the album – now available on CD!
Just time then to particularly appreciate the blinding array of bands on stage with us. Super friends Last July followed us with their usual gorgeous performance, followed by the anarchic energy of Healthy Junkies, and absolute show-stealers Motel Transylvania – we met these eager Italians backstage and were so impressed with their enthusiasm. What a performance! They absolutely blew us away. Golden Apes put on a moving performance with real emotion and a fantastic voice, and then the unstoppable, almost manic energy of Je T’Aime just lit us all up!
Indeed, by this point The Scarlet Hour were slightly flagging and had to start the two hour journey home – but we hope to be back very soon, amongst the fantastic crowds and awesome artists of Corrosion Fest. Thanks!
